5 Locations for your Outdoor Photoshoot in North Yorkshire

Spring is fast approaching and is such a popular time for outdoor photography. One of the most common questions I get asked when people are booking their session is ‘what locations would you recommend?’. Here are some of my favourite spots for family, maternity and milestone photoshoots! 1. Thorp Perrow Arboretum This is such a beautiful location and has a bit of everything! Beautiful spring flowers, woodland areas, open green spaces and a gorgeous lake. There are entrance fees to consider for this option so it is best for those who already have a season ticket or plan to spend the day here before or after their session (highly recommended!) 2. Cod Beck Reservoir This is my go-to location for anyone unsure of where to have their photoshoot. It is free to access and has some stunning natural beauty. It again offers quite varied images depending on which areas we use. I’m also obsessed with ferns in photography so the abundance of ferns there is a huge bonus for me! 3. Easby Abbey I love this location for adding some drama and visual interest to your images. The strong graphic lines and shapes make for really interesting and unique family […]

Posed vs Lifestyle Newborn Photography

When researching and choosing a newborn photographer, you will no doubt come across the terms posed and lifestyle photography. Some photographers will specialise in one type of newborn photography while others (like me) offer both depending on your preference. In this post I will discuss the differences between the two styles and what you can expect from a posed session vs a lifestyle one.  What is Posed Newborn Photography? My posed sessions usually take place in your own home, where I bring a large beanbag to safely and comfortably position your little one on, along with a beautiful range of blankets, wraps, hats, headbands, baskets and bowls. Babies are typically asleep for most of the photoshoot and this allows for those curled up sleeping baby images you may associate with newborn photography! This can mean posed sessions are quite lengthy as we allow lots of time for feeding, changing and settling your little one to ensure they are in a lovely deep sleep and can be safely posed in those adorable positions. I use natural […]

What to Wear for Your Family Photoshoot

One question I am often asked before a family photography session is “what should we wear for our family photos?” I always say that the most important thing is choosing clothing that makes you feel comfortable and confident, and that reflects who you are! There are, however, a few other things you can consider if you want to get the absolute best out of your family photoshoot. Here are 5 top tips for dressing your family for an outdoor photoshoot: 1: Coordinate but don’t match Choosing a few complimentary colours and shades that work well together can really make a difference to the look of your photographs. For a cohesive look plain colours often work best and help to keep the attention on you and not your clothing. Adding texture and layers can help create visual interest in your images. 2. Consider the environment and season your images will be taken in. Pastels and neutral shades are perfect for spring and summer, particularly for beach or flowery sessions! For woodland photoshoots richer, darker colours can look wonderful. In Autumn a combination of neutrals with some mustard or burgundy shades to coordinate with those beautiful leaves is always a good choice. […]
